Killcare Beach House

Killcare Beach House

This concrete beach house by MCK Architecture is designed in a tapering form to maximise the views over the beach while masking those of the road. The relaxed weekender vibe is enhanced by the use of unpretentious materials such as coir matting on the floors and hoop pine joinery, while the artist client’s love of colour is dialled up in hits of coloured and patterned fabric. Softening the concrete interior, a curtain rail runs around the entire living space covering the glazing and the walls alike and facilitating the way the view is managed at differing times of day. While the furniture choices are simple and robust it is the tones of the landscape and the ocean that are pulled into the interior to create a sense of calm.

Collector’s House

This was a special project where the client, with a love of art, wanted to embrace the colour pink for a study and workroom that had to be a beautiful, light-filled space.
