Tropical House

This house is a good example of how Briony endeavours to tune into the aesthetic her clients, understand what it is that appeals to them and deliver above and beyond what they could achieve themselves. ‘This client was an artist with a love of the organic, the earthy palette and pieces with an ethnic sensibility”, says Briony. A Federation bungalow in Sydney’s Rose Bay the house was set in a lush, existing garden that afforded a great deal of privacy to the outdoor dining area and the curved swimming pool. This exterior palette is reflected inside in the muted greens of the tiling and paintwork alongside a rusted terracotta. “I like to create relationships or stories within a house where there are links between materials and a flow of tones and colours but not everything has to be the same. It should be one voice but with a variety of intonations’, says Briony. She also designed a generous front door. ‘How people arrive is often under-estimated and I wanted this house to have the gesture of a warm welcome’.
