Bellevue Hill House
Bellevue Hill House
This established property in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs illustrates a long-term commission where Briony Fitzgerald has worked on different rooms in the house over a period of five years. Beginning with the family rooms the practice gradually re-modelled the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, and finally, a formal sitting room, dining room and study. “We have developed a great deal of trust with the client which has allowed us to draw threads of connection each time we do a new scheme,” says Briony. Much of the project involved editing what was there and enhancing what remained – adding fine Venetian beads on a lampshade, deep fringing on a recovered ottoman and wallpaper lining the back of an armoire. This is a house of visual connections, rich and layered where fine detailing is matched by bold decorative ideas such as a navy glazed wall and a metallic bronze ceiling in the dining room and a generous kitchen bench of luminous onyx in the kitchen.
